Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a nutrient solution only or in a medium such as coco coil, rockwool/stonewool, or expanded clay.  Hydroponics come with many benefits for our California coast.  We have great seasons in California and you can keep plants growing year round.  Although, they may not produce as well as the do during summer months.  Hydroponics and its gardening techniques could save you dramatic amounts of water, eventually saving you time and money at the grocery store in a very short time. Imagine the convenience of walking to your garden or opening a closet and grabbing the freshest harvest available.  Produce can sit for a number of days while it makes it way to the consumer. Who knows what comes in contact with your veggies.

There are new ways of Hydroponic gardening being researched and stumbled upon all the time.  Four of the ways which most people choose to garden have been Ebb&Flow, Deep Water Culture, Standard Drip System and Aeroponics.  Different vegetables will progress better in some systems than others.  If you have space, I would recommend using Deep Water Culture with air stones for your tomatoes since most tomato plants grow well, especially with plenty of oxygen to the roots and a weekly nutrient feed cycle.   More info to come…..
